What to Wear: Whites of Wimbledon
Posted By: KK on 06/29/11 12:31 PM | Categories: What to Wear
Coming up on our favorite weekend of sports spectating, watching the finals of Wimbledon Championships at The All England Lawn Tennis and Croquet Club, host to this spectacular and historical event that began in 1877. When women first began to play tennis in the 1860s, heavy materials such as flannel and even wearing a bustle was deemed appropriate. It was Maud Watson, who won the first Wimbledon Ladies’ championship in 1884, who popularized the white tennis trend as it masked perspiration. Wimbledon still request players to withstand this tradition. So went spotting trendy tennis stars such as Maria Sharapova, the Williams Sisters, and Petra Kvitova to see how they individualize the classic color. We noted Venus in particular who custom designed her tennis romper for this year’s Wimbledon, and no doubt launching a new trend in tennis styles. Can’t get to The Championships this year? To listen live, check scores, watch videos of matches, or for a televised schedule, go to Wimbledon.com.

Wimbledon 2011 will be the 125th time that The All England Lawn Tennis Club will have hosted The Championships since the first tournament in 1877. Famed for its green grass, white clothing and the Club colors of purple and green, Wimbledon is proud of its traditions. Its sporting heritage combines the best of the old with innovative solutions designed to meet the demands of the modern game. It is one of our favorite Tournaments of the year, when thoughts turn to grass courts, all-white attire and luscious strawberries. For what to wear to this spectacular sporting event, we went shopping at Ralph Lauren who is the official outfitter for Wimbledon 2011. While some players wardrobe wildly (scroll down) we prefer to dress a bit more demurely in our Wimbledon Whites.

June is the best time of the year for wonderful outdoor events – Weddings, Garden Lunches, Horse Races and Polo Tournaments like the 14th Annual Mashomack Polo Challenge and Luncheon taking place on Saturday, June 25. The event begins at noon with a lively Louis Roederer Champagne Reception followed by an elegantly tented, field-side luncheon and exciting 12 goals match. What2WearWhere.com is proud to be one of the sponsors of this event along with Town&Country, Castello di Vicarello, Moncler, Berluti, Heather Croner Real Estate Sotheby’s Intenational Realty and Loquita NYC. We found the perfect summer sheath dress at Trina Turk, flattering to every age and body type. We kept it simple to showcase the beautiful hats and fascinators from Vivien Sheriff, the British designer who designs for Kate, the Dutchess of Cambridge. For shoes, we like a wedge or a lower heel for walking on the grass and stomping divots between the chuckers. For tickets and information to this event, please contact MashomackPolo@gmail.com.
