Posted By: KK on 05/31/11 4:40 PM | Categories: What to Wear

The Central Park Conservancy’s Taste of Summer brings together over 1,000 guests on Wednesday, June 1 under the stars in Central Park for a distinctive kick-off to summer in New York City.  The event is held al fresco in a tent in front of the Naumburg Bandshell.  Taste of Summer features culinary delights prepared by the City’s most renowned chefs, a luxury-filled silent auction, and dancing to one of the City’s hottest DJs. A VIP Cafe area, hosted by Danny Meyer’s Union Square Hospitality Group, is available to table buyers. Funds raised through Taste of Summer benefit the Central Park Conservancy and its mission to maintain and preserve Central Park.   We love these summery floral cocktail dresses that are perfect for this super festive summer soiree.

What to Wear: How to Pick a Swimsuit – SALE at Saks

Posted By: KK on 05/31/11 2:52 PM | Categories: What to Wear

What to look for in a swimsuit?  The cover-up,  of course!  Don’t leave the home without it.   We like a swimsuit that lends itself to a flattering, even suntan, so avoid one shouldered, halters and the like, unless you are not planning to go in the sun.   In our opinion a strapless suit that has an attachable strap for swimming or a suit with straps that you can take down easily, are the best for style, comfort and ease.   This is a universally flattering  suit, whether your shape is apple (larger on top, smaller hips), pear (larger on bottom, smaller thighs), or banana (straight up and down).   For more details on choosing a flattering style, see the video below from Flare.com.  Meanwhile we went to SAKS.com and found this amazing selection – ALL ON SALE!

The Museum at FIT Sporting Life explores the relationship between active sportswear and fashion over the past 150 years.  It is a cleverly curated and lively exhibit that can be enjoyed by all ages.  Even your little ruffians will  stand still and and be fascinated at the sometimes comical designs and juxtapositions of sports apparel through the ages.  Featured are fashions by designers such as Claire McCardell, Norma Kamali, Stephen Sprouse, and Isabel Toledo. What to Wear: 2011 French Open

Posted By: KK on 05/26/11 3:26 PM | Categories: What to Wear

Really looking forward to the excitement of the 2011 French Open (also know as the Roland Garros, after the famous French aviator and reconnaissance pilot during World War I) and getting back on the tennis court ourselves.    Jennifer Oken, our gorgeous and sporty Tennis and Golf Editor has brought us a super section of court attire perfect for this tennis season.  While others may opt for bold colors on the court, we love the fresh, classic look of white.  And Jen recommends Martha McGuinness for a perfect solution to what to wear on the tennis court this season.  Please scroll down to see all of her tennis fashion.

This year is the 110th edition of the French Open, and it is the second Grand Slam event of the year.

While others might go for a traditional souvenir shirt or cap, we prefer our Roland Garros next to our skin!

JENNIFER OKEN W2WW TENNIS AND GOLF EDITOR

“Today’s tennis wear lines offer comfort, performance and fashion- the combination of which many athletes and tennis enthusiasts prefer.  “Tech” or “performance” fabrics which are light weight and have moisture wicking capabilities have become extremely popular and are top sellers for most manufacturers.  Material with some degree of “stretch” is ideal for athletic comfort and movement. Use of high end fabrics, which can include such exclusive materials as bamboo , can be pricey but are usually of better quality and endure longer. Where the product is manufactured is often a tell tale of quality. Subtle use of color and trim or piping has become widespread in the tennis industry, and can certainly help distinguish one brand from another.

What I personally look for in tennis clothing:
Built in shorts
Clean lines and cut
Unique trim, subtle details
Skirt length preferably 14 inches
fabrics that do not easily fade, turn gray or yellow
Styles which suit my body type”

“I began designing a tennis collection of dresses, skirts and tops that my friends and I would wear. To my excitement, they were a smash hit. Women loved the hard-working performance fabrics, flattering lines and functionality of the cut and construction. They were enthralled by the adaptability of the line; not every woman has time to change after a match, and my friends needed clothes that looked fantastic on and off the court. Martha McGuinness Tennis was launched – a line that combines the best of sports technology, style and design – a line that celebrates the strength, power and beauty of being a woman.” Martha McGuinness
