Karen Klopp went to the 55th annual Daisy Day Luncheon in Philadelphia this week benefiting the Cardiac Center’s Single Ventricle Survivorship Program for the Children’s Hospital in Philadelphia. Karen met up with Kristin Munro the editor-in-chief of Philadelphia Style Magazine to Shop the Street Style at the lunch! The event was full of chic spring attire and featured a fashion show of J. Mendel’s “tribal-art inspired” Fall 2011 Collection sponsored by Saks Fifth Avenue. We even got to meet the truly talented Gilles Mendel himself!

: Mothers Day Wish Lists

Posted By: KK on 04/29/11 2:46 PM | Categories: Uncategorized

With Mother’s Day just around the corner, we asked our favorite mothers what they would love more than anything this Spring! Two of our mamas, Sara Gilbane Sullivan of Sara Gilbane Interiors opted for plushly patterned Bottega Veneta while Brandstyle PR maven Di Petroff asked for aqua hued tunics and Trish Becker earrings. We love the sumptuous Roberto Cavalli dress decided upon by wardrobe guru and Clos-ette.com founder Melanie Fascitelli as well as the Alexander Wang suede vest, chosen by Lincoln Center’s first Fashion Director Stephanie Winston Wolkoff. Stylish blogger of Lilly’s Notebook, Lilly Bunn Weekes is all over anything Minnie Mortimer and Gotham and Hamptons Magazine Editor-in-Chief Samantha Yanks can glam up in Pippa Small gems.  Need some help dropping a hint? Write to us with your Mothers Day Wish List and the email info of your significant other and we will subtly clue them in on what to get you!

We asked our brilliant friend Elizabeth Litterer Nichols, CEO of Taigan.com how she and her daughter Mamie would be celebrating MD2011?  “On Mother’s Day late afternoon, Mamie and I always love having our favorite mothers and daughters by the pool for cocktails and reminiscing.” Sounds like such fun and we went to this spectacular online emporium to put together a smashing collection of the unique and beautiful.

Book Club: Golden State by David Prybil

gsauthor

Our friend David Prybil has written a wry drama of California Dreaming in present day Sacramento.  A writer-producer with 15 years of experience in the film business GOLDEN STATE is his first novel, and it has been selected for the iUniverse Barnes & Noble “Rising Star” program.

“Let’s also add a dash of the impending governor race where an equally colorful lineup of characters runs for office, the brightest hue being Arnold Schwarzenegger.  David Prybil has created a motley crew of characters who writhe from the page against the backdrop of a state in need of change. The characters’ agony, triumphs, and ever-present hope in the American Dream is heartfelt and achingly honest… [and] filled with dialogue and storylines that gleam.” Heidi Komlofske, San Francisco Book Review, March 2011 issue.

He will be NYC and the surrounding areas from April 27 – May 3 for appearances in support of Golden State, including a signing at BookBook, 266 Bleecker Street, Greenwich Village, May 3, from 5 – 7 p.m. For more information  and to order a book, go to David Prybil. He is currently at work on a second book, entitled LOLITAVILLE.

The Metropolitan Museum of Art Costume Institue Gala will be a celebration of Alexander McQueen’s iconic designs in  Spring 2011 Costume Institute Retrospective at Metropolitan Museum.  With Honorary Chairs François-Henri Pinault and Salma Hayek, and Co-Chairs Colin Firth, Stella McCartney, and Anna Wintour, this is the most exciting fashion event of the year.   “Alexander McQueen’s iconic designs constitute the work of an artist whose medium of expression was fashion” said Thomas P. Campbell, Director of The Metropolitan Museum of Art.  What to wear to this elegant spectacle of art and fashion?   Alexander McQueen of course!  We choose this stunning silk chiffon strapless from Net-a-Porter and all of the appropriate accessories for this magnificently appointed event.

The exhibition, organized by The Costume Institute, will celebrate the late Alexander McQueen’s extraordinary contributions to fashion. From his postgraduate collection of 1992 to his final runway presentation which took place after his death in February 2010, Mr. McQueen challenged and expanded the understanding of fashion beyond utility to a conceptual expression of culture, politics, and identity. His iconic designs constitute the work of an artist whose medium of expression was fashion.  The exhibition is made possible by Alexander McQueen™.  Additional support is provided in partnership with American Express and Condé Nast.

Street Style & Videos: Wedding Week

With the royal wedding of Prince William and Catherine Middleton coming up on Friday, this week on Shop the Street Style we decided to celebrate Wedding Week.  Karen Klopp went to astrophel + stella designer Kristin Klonoski’s studio to chat about her advice on wedding attire and Kate Middleton’s bridal style. We love Kristin’s traditional yet contemporary take on designing for a wedding party, her custom creations highlight a woman’s best and most feminine features for any age.  We particularly doted on an exquisitely elegant, back-less lace wedding gown created with beautiful hand-made French lace for a very special wedding ceremony on an island in the Caribbean.

Kristin Klonoski’s line astrophel + stella is based in New York and is available through trunk shows and by appointment for made-to-measure creations.  A ready-to-wear, capsule collection is now available at The Plaza Hotel’s Emerging Designer Boutique.  Primarily elegant cocktail and evening wear, the beautifully crafted designs fuse high fashion with a timeless aesthetic. Famous and fashionable fans of her line include model Maggie Rizer, actress Abigail Spencer and Karen Klopp! For further inquiries please go to AstrophelandStella.com
