What to Wear: Signature Oscar Cocktails
Posted By: KK on 02/25/11 12:21 PM | Categories: What to Wear
To celebrate the Academy Awards this year, we thought we’d get a little creative with Oscar inspired cocktails. Our friends at Bombay Sapphire, Benedictine Liqueur, Dewar’s and Cointreau teamed up to put together a few signature cocktails inspired by this year’s hottest films, including Black Swan, The King’s Speech, The Fighter and The Social Network. Dewar’s and Bombay Sapphire have been sponsoring a lot of the dinners and lunches for these stars and films leading up to the Oscars so they have definitely been sipped by all the A-listers. They’re perfect for serving during your Oscar viewing party! Don’t forget to check back in next week after the show for Oscar Fashion recaps, and click on the thumbnails below to see some of our favorite actresses and what to wear to the Academy Awards.
The King’s Speech
Raise your glass to Colin Firth’s Golden Globe and SAG victories with this decidedly British cocktail. Made with Earl Grey tea and Bombay Sapphire, the quintessential London Dry Gin, this cocktail is worthy of a King.
The Social Network
Created by Boston mixologist Scott Marshall of Drink, this coffee-infused Benedictine cocktail is the perfect drink to fuel those long nights spent hacking into the Harvard computer network.
The Fighter
Toast to two Knock-out performances from Christian Bale and Mark Wahlberg, in this year’s The Fighter with a Dewar’s 12 cocktail that packs a punch, yet evokes passion. Watch as the film dukes it out for Oscar gold.
Black Swan
In one of the best performances of the year, toast Natalie Portman’s startling character portrayal in this psychological thriller. Follow her swirl of brilliance and insanity from White Swan to Black Swan, while drinking cocktails to match. Begin with the White Lady in its classic and purest form and end with the dark and deliciously menacing Cointreau Noir in Black Ice.
What to Wear: The Fascinator Kate Midddleton
Posted By: KK on 02/25/11 10:50 AM | Categories: What to Wear
We are absolutely fascinated by Kate Middleton and her fashionable “Fascinators.” We love her whimsical sense of style – to look at her is to smile. We will be tracking her whereabouts in the upcoming months, as eager as any for a glimpse of her wedding day dress and to follow her demure and chic style. As you can see in the video, the Fascinator stays in place, even in the high winds of Scotland.
From Wikipedia comes this description. “A fascinator is a headpiece, a style of millinery. The word originally referred to a fine, lacy head covering akin to a shawl. The term had fallen almost into disuse by the 1970s. In the early 21st century, the term has made a comeback, but the meaning has slightly changed; it is now used to describe a delicate, slightly-to-very frivolous head decoration worn almost exclusively by women. A fascinator may be worn instead of a hat to occasions where hats were traditionally worn—such as weddings—or as an evening accessory, when it may be called a cocktail hat. It is generally worn with fairly formal attire.” We went did a little shopping on our own and found these lovely and well-priced Fascinators available on-line from Asos.com. I think we will be seeing these popping up at spring luncheons and events this season!
And then there is the one we wore to a Hunt Ball, that my lovely husband bought me in London at Locke and Co. Hatters.
Here are some of the Fascinators available at Locke & Co. Hatters, London, St. James Street. They will ship to the U.S.

What to Wear: Ivanka Trump Fine Jewelry

We loved shooting our LX New York segment with Maria at Ivanka Trump Fine Jewelry Collection on Madison Avenue and 63rd Street. The shop is a precious jewel box filled with exquisitely designed jewelry of every description. Ivanka believes, “this collection is that it will appeal to women who have a strong sense of themselves, know what they like, value exquisite workmanship and wear even the most important jewelry with a kind of off-handed elegance. They have a sense of tradition, but they like to go their own way. They appreciate quality, but won’t tolerate stuffiness. They have everything, yet they have nothing to prove.”

What to Wear: Helena Bonham Carter at the Oscars
Posted By: KK on 02/23/11 4:00 PM | Categories: What to Wear
Next up on our Oscar fashion watch list is Helena Bonham Carter nominated for best supporting actress in “The King’s Speech.” This years Academy Awards will mark her 2nd Oscar Nomination. We loved her portrayal of Queen Elizabeth in the moving and true story of how her husband, King George VI (Colin Firth) overcame his stutter with her by his side and the help of a speech therapist, played by Geoffrey Rush. For what could be her first win for best supporting actress, we thought this ‘royal blue’ Marchesa dress was perfect for such a regal role. The simplicity of the dress calls for a little more detail in the accessories so we jazzed her up in killer jeweled heels and drop earrings, both by Ivanka Trump. Famous for her quirky fashion sense and English pride, we added this tiara, fit for a queen!
Left to Right: Notte by Marchesa Strapless Satin-Waist Gown ($925), Elegant Pave Crystal Tiara ($75), Ivanka Trump Short Diamond Crossover Earrings ($1800), Tasha Snake Embossed Metal Box Clutch ($88), Ivanka Trump ‘Asteria’ Sandal ($150)
