Street Style & Videos: Upper East Side + Carnegie Hill

Posted By: KK on 01/28/11 12:41 PM | Categories: Street Style & Videos

This week on W2WW’s Shop the Street Style, Fashion Editor Hilary Dick shopped NYC’s Upper East Side and Carnegie Hill street style. We went on a hunt for snowy Gossip Girls and found a plethora of fabulously dressed ladies! With an amazing selection of stores in this area it is not surprising. When shopping for stylish pieces we seem to always find something at our favorite boutiques, from Pheobe Cates’ highly unique and utterly lovely picks at Blue Tree, the amazingly well-edited OTTE, and classic meets chic collections at J. McLaughlin. Once you head uptown you won’t have to walk too far in the snow as this splendid medley of stores are all within a 2 block vicinity on Madison Avenue! Happy snowy shopping and “you know you love us!” xoxo-W2WW

What to Wear: Gallery Hopping and Kenny Scharf

Posted By: KK on 01/28/11 12:41 PM | Categories: What to Wear

“Come down and see the jungle!” said our great friend and gallery owner Paul Kasmin of his latest show, “Naturafutura  and Three Dozen!” featuring the lively and brilliant works of Kenny Scharf. On view from January 27th to February 26th 2011, the exhibit is a combination of large scale paintings inspired by Scharf’s studio in Bahia, Brazil and a collection of his iconic donut works. Upon meeting the artist last night at the opening who looked so dashing, we learned that he paints in the nude! We couldn’t wait to revisit the whimsical works so we decided to make a day of it – we threw together the perfect look to go gallery hopping in Chelsea, followed by a nice brunch in the area…perhaps at local favorite Italian spot Bottino. (We love their tuna tar tar and delicious salads.)

The warm weather might still be a little far off, but get into the springtime spirit with an evening out at the New York Botanical Garden annual Orchid Dinner on February 1st. Held at the Mandarin Oriental at Columbus Circle, the event, sponsored by Tiffany & Co., BNY Mellon and Veranda, includes cocktails at 7pm and an exceptional orchid sale, followed by dinner and dancing. We took a cue from the Orchid Dinner invite and found some gorgeous vibrant pinks to wear for the evening out. Have some floral fun with these looks and dance the night away for a good cause!

What to Wear: Perfect Skinny Jeans

Ken Downing“The skinny jean has transcended trend. It’s just become part of our everyday wardrobe.”

The most dashing man in fashion is Ken Downing, Senior VP and Fashion Director at Neiman Marcus. We first were smitten with his savvy style at the HELP USA Awards Luncheon where he was honored for his philanthropic work to raise awareness around the issue of domestic violence. We were inspired by his observations of the skinny jean and totally agree. It is a silhouette that is flattering to most body shapes and they look equally fab with flats, heels or tucked into boots!  Don’t miss our great  Sale Sweaters to pair them.

What to Wear: Shop and Smell the Roses Inspired by Will Ryman

Posted By: KK on 01/25/11 1:56 PM | Categories: What to Wear

Did you notice some rather large roses growing on Park Avenue this morning?  Simply ask artist Will Ryman, “how does your garden grow?”  We found out that Paul Kasmin Gallery in conjunction with New York City’s Department of Parks and Recreation and the Fund for the Park Avenue Sculpture Committee are responsible for transforming New York City into a Jack and the Beanstalk-like garden (well at least along Park Avenue from 57th to 67th streets.)  We decided to shop and smell the roses and complied a collection of floral prints which are right on trend for this spring.

Left to Right:  Vanessa Bruno Dress ($760), D&G Floral Dress ($515), Moschino Cheap & Chic ($895), Tibi Poplin Dress ($230)

Rendering of The Roses by the artist Will Ryman

Left to Right: Etro Flower Wrap Dress ($795), Milly ($395), Armani Brown Flower-Print Dress ($1,315), Etro Cap Sleeve Dress ($1,060)

Will Ryman’s 38 booming bloom sculptures, ranging from 4 feet to 25 feet in height, will be on view starting today January 25 through May 31, and is a lovely reminder during these bleak winter months that spring will indeed be coming.  A native New Yorker, Will Ryman is know internationally for his large scale sculptures, incorporating all sorts of materials, from stainless steel to  plaster.  As a writer turned artist his work often is influenced by playwrights and philosophers.  For further information regarding Will Ryman’s work please contact Paul Kasmin Gallery.
