From Style.com: After years spent working in branding for fashion houses such as Nina Ricci, Carolina Herrera, Tory Burch, and many others, Sara Rotman officially launched her accessories line Loquita this month. Her lively printed silk scarves, pocket squares, and grandpa-inspired ascots have an old-world elegance, but thanks to the in-the-now prints and colors, these are anything but dusty. I love this shackle-and-chain printed scarf, which reminds me of a vintage Hermès piece, punkified. It’ll lighten up my heavy winter coat now, and look just as good over a trench when spring finally arrives.

Should auld acquaintances be forgot and never brought to mind? Certainly not! What2WearWhere Fashion Editors have compiled some of their Favorite Fashion Moments of 2010.  Scroll down to see entire list.

pierre cardin Assouline

PIERRE CARDIN AT ASSOULINE We started of this fabulous fashion year of 2010 celebrating the 60th anniversary of iconic French designer Pierre Cardin with the designer himself! and our W2WW Fashion Editor, Kalliope Karella.  The party celebrated Assouline Books‘ publication of the Jean Pascal Hesse retrospective of the design legend.  Cardin’s innovative sense of style created a highly sculptural take on fashion, making the architecture of the Assouline store at the Plaza quite the perfect place for such a festive fete.   For a copy of this chicest compendiums, Pierre Cardin,  60 Years of Innovation, please visit  Assouline Books.

toryfashion night out

FASHIONS NIGHT OUT We had so much fun during Mercedes Benz Fashion Week 2010. We organized a Mother and Daughter event for Fashion’s Night Out 2010. We met at the Standard Hotel and our first stop was Tory Burch in the Meatpacking District where Tory posed for a photo with the girls and spoiled us in true TB style with yummy food from The Shake Shack and cool beats by DJ Cassidy. From there we hit Saks to see the girls from GlamourpussNYC then continued on to Berdorfs and wrapped it up at Plaza with our friend Kristin of Astrophel and Stella.  It was a magical, beautiful night in the city teeming with music and excitement.  With huge kudos  to the founders, Mike Bloomberg, Diane vonFurstenberg and Anna Wintour for creating something so exciting and wonderful fo this town, it has taken on a life of its own and breathed fresh air and buoyancy into a Friday night in September that will go down in fashion history.

NYFW

VOGUE’S FASHION SHOW AT LINCOLN CENTER Fashion’s Night Out staged the largest public fashion show in New York City history on September 7, 2010 at Lincoln Center.  This high styled event kicked off Mercedes Benz Fashion Week 2010 with a spectacle of fashion, dazzling lighting and pounding music.  Every one in fashion turned out From top designers, models, a-list celebs and musicians   For 30 minutes the crowd sat transfixed by the dashing display of models such as Giselle Bundchen strut the fall trends through the intricate labyrynth of chairs, set open air around the plaza’s fountain on the plaza.   Then it was over, leaving the audience on their feet with a standing ovation, feeling the excitement and the anticipation of the week ahead in the brand new venue at Lincoln Center.

FIT

COUTURE COUNCIL HONORS KARL LAGERFELD We were so excited when we found out that our friends at  The Couture Council of The Museum at the Fashion Institute of Technology (FIT) were kicking off Fashion Week 2010 at a benefit luncheon honoring designer, Karl Lagerfeld with The Fashion Visionary Award. The Council is dedicated to supporting The Museum at FIT, a specialized museum of fashion making it possible for the museum to mount world-class exhibitions, to acquire important objects for its permanent collection and to organize public programs.  The luncheon held at Avery Fisher Hall, was attended by hundreds of well-heeled devotees of fashion.  This glamorous and clamorous crowd was hushed when Dr. Valerie Steele, director of The Museum at FIT, announced, “In recognition of his unparalleled role as a creative force in the world of fashion, we have chosen to bestow on Karl Lagerfeld, The Couture Council Fashion Visionary Award. This unique award was created exclusively for Karl Lagerfeld. Not only is Lagerfeld an inimitable designer, he is also an acclaimed photographer, publisher, renowned collector, and a true connoisseur.”   Bravo!

Iamlove

TILDA SWINTON I AM LOVE We simply fell in love with the role that fashion plays in Luca Guadangnino’s “I Am Love” and the utterly exquisite wardrobe created by Raf Simons for Jil Sander.  The costumes themselves create a pivotal role in developing Tilda Swinton’s character, Emma, with such modern yet classic references.  From Tilda sporting Kim Novak’s notorious hairstyle in Alfred Hitchcock’s Vertigo to heightening the color palate of certain character’s outfits to reflect  unspoken emotions, such as the San Remo orangery tangerine and the iconic red dress which consequently Swinton appears to be wearing at the exact moment she starts to fall in love.  Isn’t it wonderful how fashion enhances our lives.

princeW

THE ROYAL ENGAGEMENT The announcement of the royal engagement of dashing Prince William and his chicly demure Kate Middleton was a very special moment for fashion in 2010.   At last we have a proper role model for our teens and twenty somethings – a young woman who knows how to be of-the-moment fashionable and of-the-event appropriate.   We will follow her every ensemble right up to the “Wedding of the Century” on April 29, 2011 when the royal nuptials will commence!  Check out what the designers are sketching for the princess-to-be from Karl Lagerfeld’s Victorian lady in lace to classic pieces by our friends, Nicole Miller and Tory Burch and even a highly modern nuptial gown in bright yellow by our young designer friend, Chris Benz. It will be a storybook beginning for these two lovely young people, so dedicated to each other and the Kingdom

LadyGaga

LADY GAGA You either love or  hate the outrageous fashion style of singer Lady Gaga.  Yet regardless of taste, we would like to raise our glass to her for pushing the envelope in the fashion world and taking it to new limits this 2010.  Whether it entails painting pearls on her body, making a fashion-statement in a sirloin steak or rocking Alexander McQueen, we respect her role as a fashion icon and admire her  enormous artistic talent to back it all up.  And the world agrees -  The Fame Monster was the top selling record globally in 2010.   We are looking forward to seeing what her creative genius will produce in 2011.

michelleO

MICHELLE OBAMA’S STYLE  Michelle Obama continues to carry her duty as First Lady in an effortlessly elegant style.  Whether she is attending Black Tie State Functions in an exquisite Naeem Khan gown, carrying out First Lady functions in floral frocks or taking on her everyday role as a mother in her casual chic attire- she is always fashionably first in our books.  Mrs. O has created her own fashion forward look by mixing off-the-rack classics such as J.Crew with high-end designers like Isaac Mizrahi and even supporting newcomers such as Jason Wu. Her look is attainable and American which makes us continually proud to have her as our First Lady.

British designer Alexander Mc Queen AMDp

THE DEATH OF ALEXANDER McQUEEN   The fashion world was shocked and saddened, when the news broke last February of legendary designer, Alexander McQueen‘s death.  The announcement put a pall on fashionistas and artists everywhere to hear of such a loss just days before London Fashion Week. McQueen, whose career was marked with rebellion and innovation was much beloved by those in-the-know in fashion.  British Vogue editor Alexandra Shulman said: “He was the most brilliant designer of his generation and his influence can be seen in the way that women dressed over the last 15 years.” In his too-short life Alexander McQueen, or “Lee” as he was known to friends, was awarded the British Designer of the Year Award four times and was embraced by scores of celebrities and fans including the late iconic Isabella BlowSandra Bullock, Sarah Jessica Parker, Anna Wintour, Daphne Guinness, Rihanna and Lady Gaga.  His tragic passing is a great loss to his family, friends and the entire fashion community who will miss him always.
