Support the New York Public Library in its Centennial Year at the most important annual event and one of the most anticipated dinners on New York City’s social calendar at the Library Lions Gala on Monday, November 1, sponsored by Asprey. The celebrated black tie event features honorees five distinguished individuals recognized for excellence in their respective fields of arts, letters, and scholarship-including award-winning author Malcolm Gladwell, celebrated actor and screenwriter Ethan Hawke, noted scholar and widely acclaimed leader of The New York Public Library Paul LeClerc, beloved writer and entertainer Steve Martin, and internationally renowned novelist Zadie Smith. As Mr. and Mrs. Oscar de la Renta are amongst the gala chairmen we went straight to Oscar to figure out what to wear. We found this stunning and iconic 1980′s Oscar de la Renta strapless duchesse satin ball gown with a full beaded silver and jet sequin bodice from 1stdibs.com that is perfect for such a luminous black tie event. We added a fur jacket and lots of incandescent jewels to complete the look with Oscar de la Renta heels and a satin and crystal clutch. What to Wear: Interview + School Tours
Posted By: KK on 10/28/10 3:58 PM | Categories: What to Wear
We have been getting many questions asking us, what to wear to school interviews and tours? So we went right to the source and asked our friend, Linda Casertano, the Associate Head of Admission at Millbrook School, for her savvy and extremely helpful advice. “Dress for comfort, respectful of the school’s dress code, and in a way that makes you feel poised and confident.” We took her insight and put together two outfits to dress both Mother and Daughter. For Mom, we chose an equestrian-style tweed blazer, classically cut corduroys, flat weave turtleneck sweater, a silk scarf and low heeled boots which are great for walking around campus. Following Linda’s advice, we dressed the young lady in chanel-like tweed skirt, black turtleneck, grey tights, ballet flats and the ubiquitous UGG’s topped off with a country-classic Barbour. Remember girls, you only get one chance to make a first impression so keep your hair and nails clean and neat.

The Boys’ Club of New York Annual Black Tie Fall Dance is just around the corner on Thursday October 28th. This wonderful organization, founded in 1876, encourages an environment that nurtures individual talent, strengthens families and promotes strong citizenship while fostering a passion for learning. The glamorous, go-to event of the fall season held at 583 Park Avenue, is creatively chaired by Travis Acquavella, Tantivy Gubelmann Bostwick, Merrill Curtis and Claudia Overstrom. Festivities begin with cocktails at 7:30pm, followed by an evening of dinner and dancing into the wee hours. It is quite a night of celebration and revelry and since the dress code is black tie we are opting for this lovely Marchesa ruffle gown with the perfect dancing Choos and a sparkly clutch. What to wear to accessorize? Van Cleef & Arpels has generously sponsored the event so we will add a dash of autumnal red to our outfit with this pin that can double as a hair clip (à la Uma Thurman).
