Project Green Chic: Modo for Jennifer Creel

Posted By: KK on 04/29/10 7:53 AM | Categories: Project Green Chic

We asked our friend and designer Jennifer Creel to explain how she became an activist in protecting the environment:

I have learned from several environmentally active friends how to make important changes to my lifestyle.  Amanda Hearst writes a monthly article for Marie-Claire Magazine devoted to environmentally friendly fashion and lifestyle and is on the board of Riverkeeper.  Annie Churchill Albert is invovled with the NRDC and the Riverkeeper Junior Council.  She is a model of living with an awareness of the world around her.  Ulla Parker lives a green lifestyle and supports many organizations like Oceana, NRDC and Conservation InternationalShelly Malkin heads development for NRDC and is an incredible artist.  She currently is showing her work at the Greenwich Audubon Center.  Libby Fitgerald runs Greyledge Farms a sustainable source of grass fed meat and poutlry.   I believe these women and the changes they represent contribute to a much healthier environment for me and my children.   In business, I am a fashion designer of Modo for Jennifer Creel sunglasses. The collection is made of natural materials such as bamboo and leather. In addition, Modo is
planting a tree with every purchase
through the philanthropic organization  "Trees for the Future!"

Doug %20 Mike Starn on the Roof: Big Bambu at The Metropolitan Museum of Art

Doug %20 Mike Starn on the Roof: Big Bambu opens on April 27 at the Iris and B. Gerald Cantor Roof Garden at the Metropolitan Museum.  The twin brothers were invited to create a site-specific installation, which will eventually measure to about 100 feet long, 50 feet wide, and 50 feet high.  Vistors will witness the continuing creation as the artists and a group of rock climbers contruct this creation through out the spring, summer and fall as the exhibition will on view till October 31, 2010.

So excited to see this impressive installation.  We first met
Doug and Mike through Richard Edwards of Baldwin
Gallery
in Aspen.  We chose this floral and fashionably conscious Stella
McCartney
dress to go with the natural bamboo edifice along with earthy-toned
accessories
.  We added a pair of rubber-soled DVF ballet flats
to the mix as visitors are encouraged to walk amongst the performance
sculpture and heels would be a little daunting.

What to Wear: Tribeca Film Festival Drive-In

The Tribeca Film Festival is among us!  Tonight the Tribeca Drive-In opens with a screening of the 1988 classic comedy "BIG" staring Tom Hanks.  Head down to the World Financial Center Plaza on 220 Vesey Street and get a group together for an evening picnic.  Film screenings start at dusk (around 8:15pm) yet the venue opens at 6pm to snag a prime spot.  Forget about being an adult for an evening and relive the simplity of childhood.  I mean who doesn't remember the "Heart & Soul" dance off between Tom Hanks and Robert Loggia at FAO Schwartz?!  Oh and the drive-in is free so it won't cost you "three dimes, a hundred dollar bill and 87 ones."

Left to Right: Marc Jacobs Cardigan ($160), J.Brand Jeans ($165), Madewell Chunky Gem Necklace ($68), J.Crew Hockney Hobo ($258), Hamilton Picnic Set for 4 ($90), Topshop Resin Bangle ($20), J.Crew Ballet Flat ($98), Picnic Time Blanket Tote ($19.85)

What the Chairs Wear: MCNY Spring Lecture and Luncheon

Posted By: KK on 04/22/10 2:08 PM | Categories: What the Chairs Wear

Elizabeth Farran Tozer
, Zibby to her friends, is being honored at the Museum of the City of New York's Spring Lecture and Luncheon on April 26.  Zib is one of those gals who does it all and makes it look easy.  The Museum is recognizing her civic leadership and stewardship of the luncheon for over 20 years.  On the program is Iris Apfel, one of the most celebrated personalities in the worlds of fashion, textiles, adn interior design, and Perter Pennoyer, principal of the eponymous firm with a national practice in classical and traditional architecture.

Our Style Editor, Hilary Dick, has fashioned a fantastically classic ensemble with this perfect Caroline Herrera faille sheath and creates a statement with Oscar de la Renta's gorgeous gold and shell necklace.  This look is so flattering and feminine for every age and body type and it will hold its value by becoming a "go to" look for spring and summer.   Zibby will be a "stand out" in it and then again, she always is. For information, visit the Museum of the City of New York.
